UPDATE: Bahrain: The case against The Committee of Women’s Memorandum
On 11 November 2003, the High Court of Appeal decided not to transfer the case to the Constitutional Court but that the case would continue to be dealt with in the High Penal Court. The next hearing date has not yet been announced.
At a hearing on 21st October 2003, the High Penal Court transferred the case to the Constitutional Court in order to examine whether the grounds being used in the case, against the editor-in-chief of the newspaper, are constitutional.
Following this, the Attorney General appealed against the High Penal Court's decision to transfer the case to the Constitutional Court. Therefore, another hearing will take place on the 11th November 2003 when the Court will decide if the case can be transferred to the Constitutional Court.
The Committee of Women's Memorandum still needs your support and WLUML urges you to write to the Bahraini authorities. See the original call for action for more details (see the link above).
