For the first time in recorded history, a mosque has invited a woman to lead a mixed-gender prayer at its Friday congregation.
On the occasion of Canada Day on Friday, July 1, the Muslim Canadian Congress and the United Muslim Association will host Friday 'Juma' prayers at the UMA Mosque.
The Friday prayers will be led by Pamela Taylor, Co-Chair of the New York based Progressive Muslim Union. Taylor will also deliver the Khutba (Sermon) at this historic prayer, becoming the first time ever a woman will lead a mixed gender congregation in a traditional mosque environment.
