CSW 57 Panel - Global Campaign to Stop Stoning: Why Stoning Is Violence Against Women

On March 8^th, 2013, Women Living Under Muslim Laws (WLUML) and its partner organisations gathered in New York during the 57^th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) to launch The Global Campaign to Stop Stoning Women.

Human rights defenders from Iran and Afghanistan joined hands with international human rights law experts to discuss why stoning is a form of violence against women and should be stopped. They called on states where stoning still exists in law and in practice to abide by their international human rights obligations by banning stoning as a cruel and degrading form of punishment. Member States of the United Nations attending the Commission on the Status of Women were also urged to denounce the practice of executions by stoning as one of the most brutal forms of violence against women.
