Death of Justice Verma, the judge who helped toughen up Rape Laws in India

It is with deep regret that we hear the passing away of Justice Verma, a remarkable judge who headed a committee post the brutal rape and killing of the student in India.

Justice Verma was also the judge who decided amongst others, the Vishaka case, showcasing judicial due diligence at one of its finest moments. Vishaka laid down guidelines that the Government of India was to adopt in cases of sexual harassment until Parliament passed a law on sexual harassment.
