Our Own Harvard Fellow, Naureen Shameem, Delivers the Report on the Issue of Discrimination Against Women on behalf of the WHRD-IC

Our own Harvard Fellow, Naureen Shameem, delivered a statement on the report of the Working Group on the issue of Discrimination against Women in Law and Practice on behalf of the Women Human Rights Defenders International Coalition and the International Service for Human Rights (ISHR) on June 3^rd at the 23rd Regular Session of the UN Human Rights Council.

WLUML was at the Human Rights Council because of its involvement in the ISHR’s Geneva Training Course on strategic use of UN human rights mechanisms for Human Rights Defenders (HRDs). The ISHR is an international NGO that supports HRDs in their work by providing them with training, information, and advice. The Geneva Training Course is designed to offer participants with existing advocacy experience at domestic or regional level the opportunity to expand their knowledge and skills. Over the two week period participants directly engage in lobbying and advocacy activities at the UN level.

Also at the UN HRC session, long-time WLUML networker and UN Special Rapporteur in the Field of Cultural Rights, Farida Shaheed, delivered her report, focusing on cultural rights, artistic freedom, and the relationship between state, artists, and social harmony.
