Solidaritas Perempuan Kinasih Yogyakarta (SP Kinasih), one of SP’s 13 community branches, has set up a Help Centre (known in Indonesian as ‘Posko’) for the quake survivors, especially women and children.
The earthquake that happened on Saturday, 27 May 2006 in Yogyakarta and Central Java has destroyed lives, livelihoods and livelihood resources.
Information from said that as of Monday (29/5), at 05.50 (western Indonesia time), the Department of Social Welfare’s Coordinating Centre has documented that the quake has killed 4,983 persons. This disaster has left behind countless tragedies among hundreds of people in the area of the quake.

Since Monday, 28 May 2006, SP’s Help Centre has given special assistance to women and children in the form of food, water and other drinks, milk, women’s sanitary napkins, women’s clothes, in three villages in the area of Pleret, Bantul.

Women and children in this area urgently need tents, blankets, food, water, medicine, women’s underwear, women’s sanitary napkins, clothes and necessities for babies, sarongs, etc.

SOLIDARITAS PEREMPUAN’S HELP CENTRE FOR QUAKE VICTIMS IN YOGYAKARTA is collecting donations in cash or in kind for women and children who have survived the earthquake.
