International: 28 May - day for action for women's health

The Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights (WGNRR) calls for action on May 28th, the International Day of Action for Women’s Health, to put women’s reproductive and sexual health and rights at the centre of the response to HIV/AIDS.
We call on you to take up initiatives and actions to push back against women’s vulnerability to HIV/AIDS. There are 17.5 million women living with HIV in the world, a majority of them in developing countries. Social, economic, political, religious and cultural realities and customs join biology to make women especially vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Globally, women are 1.6 times more likely to get infected with HIV than men. Let’s not wait for help but take action, now!
This Call for Action 2006 “Breaking the ties that bind us: A call for action against women’s vulnerability to HIV/AIDS” is part of the Women’s Access to Health Campaign (WAHC), a joint world-wide initiative of the Women’s Global Network for Reproductive Rights and the People’s Health Movement (PHM). The WAHC is launched every year on May 28th, the International Day of Action for Women’s Health, and continues throughout the year. In 2006, the WAHC focuses on women’s health and HIV/AIDS. Health for all, Health for women!
