This volume looks back at a wealth of women’s peacebuilding practice documented by Accord since 1998. Case studies from Cambodia, Sierra Leone, northern Uganda, Papua New Guinea–Bougainville, Northern Ireland, Angola, Sudan, Indonesia–Aceh and Somalia (presented in the chronological order in which the original Accord issues were published) shed light on what women peacebuilders have done to overcome conflict and the challenges they encountered. The cases reflect women’s practice in particular contexts yet also provide general insights for peacebuilding practitioners and policymakers – insights into what women peacebuilders can achieve and how they can be effectively supported in their efforts.

This report locates where the punishment of stoning is still in practice, either through judicial (codified as law) or extrajudicial (outside the law) methods.   

A number of Aceh youths wearing punk hairstyles and attire reported to Banda Aceh authorities and to the National Commission on Human Rights’ Aceh branch on Monday over last week’s concert raid.

Indonesian sharia police are "morally rehabilitating" more than 60 young punk rock fans in Aceh province on Sumatra island, saying the youths are tarnishing the province's image. Since being arrested at a punk rock concert in the provincial capital Banda Aceh on Saturday night, 59 male and five female punk rock fans have been forced to have their hair cut, bathe in a lake, change clothes and pray.

The implementation of Islamic Sharia Qanun in Aceh has contributed to increased violence against women. This can be seen in the implementation of Islamic Sharia in Aceh that was focused on the matter of women's clothing, which also limited women's mobility, as can be seen on the case of the removal of the woman subdistrict head in the Bireun regency. Therefore, SP Aceh saw that violence against women in Aceh is directly impacted by the politicization of religion by concerned parties in Aceh.

This paper is based on extensive fieldwork in tsunami-affected Aceh, Indonesia, between August 2006 and January 2007, and focuses on two key land rights issues for women in tsunami-affected Aceh: inheritance and documentation of land rights.

This is a report on restoring and confirming land rights for internally displaced persons in tsunami affected Aceh, Indonesia. The report addresses two issues: the need for sufficient tenure security to support housing reconstruction and land allocation and need to minimize land grabbing and other land related conflicts. Cross cutting issues taken into account include protection of the rights of vulnerable groups including women.

Deux lois locales de la charia, dans la province indonésienne d'Aceh, bafouent les droits des habitants et sont régulièrement appliquées de manière abusive par des représentants de l'État et même par des particuliers, a déclaré Human Rights Watch dans un rapport publié aujourd'hui. Le gouvernement central du pays et celui de la province d'Aceh devraient agir pour abroger ces deux lois, a préconisé Human Rights Watch.
