 Ferdous Al Toum was sentenced to be flogged 20 lashes and a fine. She has appealed this sentence. Rehab Omer Kakoum was sentenced to a heavy fine and has appealed this. Trials against eight of the 10 female Christian students charged with “indecent dress” have concluded.

The Public Order Police have charged 10 female Christian students with "indecent dress” and subjected them to verbal abuse during their detention. The charge carries the punishment of flogging.

The Islamic State of Iraq and Levantine (ISIS) atrocities, since the occupation of Mosul city, have shocked the Iraqi and the International community altogether. Their criminal conduct is abysmal against Iraqi women in general, and specifically against the Yazidi, Christian, Shiite Shebek and Turkomen women.

Zeynab Jalalian, a member of Iran’s Kurdish minority, currently serving a life sentence in Kermanshah Prison, western Iran, is at risk of losing her eyesight and she is in urgent need of medical care.

WLUML has been shocked to learn that there are two individuals at imminent risk of execution by stoning in Iran. In 2012, Zahra Pour Sai and Ali Sai Bashsiz were tried in Tabriz (Iranian Azerbaijan) court, convicted of Zina (adultery), and sentenced to death by stoning. They appealed their convictions, but the appeal was refused and the verdict was confirmed by Branch 7 of the Supreme Court. It is now feared that they are at imminent risk of death by stoning.

Khadija Mohamed Badr is a Nuba woman was detained in Kadugli on November 11th , 2012;in the large campaign of arrests of Nuba women during the last two months of 2012. Khadija was detained with more than 30 women early November 2012 in suspicion of their relation with the Sudanese Peoples liberations Army/ North -SPLM/N activities in Nuba mountains. On February 6th,2013, Khadija Badr, one of the women detainees was transferred to Khartoum General Hospital after her health was severely deteriorated  as a result of the torture on the hands of the Sudanese security.

A popular referendum on the current draft of the new Egyptian Constitution has been scheduled for this Saturday, 15 December by President Morsi. As references it makes to the supremacy of Islamic law (Sharia law) can be widely interpreted, if approved, it could restrict and severely undermine women’s and girls’ rights.
